Alternative On-site Wastewater Treatment

Comments Off on Alternative On-site Wastewater Treatment

Project Information

A well-known fast food restaurant’s septic system, located in a rural area not served by sewer, was failing with repairs expected to be very costly. Our Principal Engineer consulted with state authorities regarding approved technologies for on-site wastewater treatment other than septic fields. Because of the acute nature of the repair, authorities were willing to allow technologies not fully vetted by the state, which included novel methods of in-situ tank aeration to reduce oxygen demand and FOG content. However, the owner ultimately decided to investigate connection to a private wastewater treatment system.

Estimated Project Value

$150,000

Project Information

A local beach-front pub experienced failure from two of five roof-mounted package heat pumps during the summer months. Our engineer inspected equipment and found the coils were not suitable for beach-front usage and had corroded under salt-spray exposure. We prepared a thermal/HVAC model of the restaurant and found that the installed system was under-designed by about 20%. Our report prioritized several recommendations for the restaurant to undertake with the incorrect package units given first priority.

Estimated Project Value

$50,000 for all upgrades

Estimated Project Value

Valued from $10,000 to $50,000

Warehouse Foundation Investigation

Comments Off on Warehouse Foundation Investigation

Project Information

Coastal River Engineering was retained to investigate evident erosion of the building foundation for a national manufacturing company and recommend solutions. A site survey concluded that improperly designed storm water management was creating specific erosion points that were undermining the building foundation. Recommendations included re-grading an unpaved parking area and replacing an inappropriate gutter system.
